Hole
or patch – - -

either reveal
an intricate creature,

eyes on stalks,
claw-ready

and rattling.

Making Meaning

Between the pieces lies
something unspoken –
a stolen egg, its shell
broken,
left rocking on a shelf.

If you’ve a mind to untie
the knots and layers,
ignore the instruction
cut here –
try joining invisible dots

to the inner-down, the claw,
the hook all a-dangle,
and look – a label,
not naming
what’s really held.

A hundred hundred stitches,
sutured tight as prayer
begin to take on shape,
unpinning –
a meaning starting to unfold.
